Katrina Kaif Romancing with Abhishek Bachchan

Katrina Kaif Romancing with Abhishek Bachchan

Bollywood is all set to see an interesting on-screen pairing when Katrina Kaif unites with Abhishek Bachchan in Rajkumar Santoshi's upcoming romantic comedy.

The teaming of the two stars has raised eyebrows because the buzz has all along suggested that Abhishek - on the advice of wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is Katrina's arch rival - by and large avoided working with the Tees Maar Khan star.

Katrina and Abhishek had shared screen space briefly in Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar, but that was a good five years ago and before Abhi- Ash became a couple.

Industry insiders believe Ash has no other option but to allow Abhishek to work with Kat as he is reeling under consecutive flops - of Raavan and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey. "No one can deny that Katrina is the number one female star right now. How long can Abhishek decline a movie with Katrina despite Ash's reservations?" asks a trade analyst.

Abhishek's last hit was Paa in 2009, but the success of the film was credited to his dad Amitabh Bachchan's National Award- winning performance. Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and co- starring Deepika Padukone, also sank without a trace.

In the past, Ash reportedly wanted Abhishek to avoid Karan Johar's Dostana 2 as the filmmaker was keen to cast Kat in the film. Although Dostana 2 was announced a while ago, the production has not made much progress.

Santoshi, on the other hand, does not wish to waste time over starting his project. He was always keen to cast Katrina after the bumper success of his last release, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. " Abhishek will risk losing out on an offer to star with Kat in a rom- com by Santoshi ( if he listens to Ash)," says a source.

Katrina reportedly also rubbed the Bachchans the wrong way when she opted out of Abbas- Mustan's Players , starring Abhishek. The rumour goes she didn't want work with the actor after the failure of Raavan. Katrina's rivalry with Ash goes back sometime. To start with, Ash lost a jewellery endorsement deal to Katrina, followed by the much- hyped Barbie doll contract. Later, a famous soap brand too signed up Kat despite Aishwarya - along with hubby Abhishek - being their brand endorser.

Katrina, however, has been diplomatic over the issue " I did one of my earliest films with Abhishek," she says, referring to Sarkar . " Somehow, subsequent projects didn't work out. I had decided whenever I worked with him again, it would be on an out- and- out romantic subject." Meanwhile, Katrina has revealed she lost out on a modelling contract in the UK in 1999 as she was considered too fat for the campaign. She was rejected for being too curvy.

" They said I didn't fit their size requirement. I knew I was never going to get any thinner. I'm not skinny, I am healthy and toned," she said. " I think it's unfair on girls for whom being thin doesn't come naturally. I'm fed up with seeing tiny models in magazines talking about how they are so curvy. I think, ' No you're not.

I'll show you curves!'" Also, Katrina is angry about the news that she was in Dubai with Salman and his family for his birthday and the New Year celebrations. " I'm in Mumbai rehearsing for my performance at an awards function next week. If I could be away from India, I'd be with my family in London," she said.

KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY REVIEW by TARAN ADARSH

KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY REVIEW by TARAN ADARSH

Adapting a work of literature into a movie is an arduous task. Satyajit Ray's 'Apu Trilogy' (Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar) was based on two Bengali novels written by Bibhuthibhushan Bandopadhyay. Ray's Shatranj Ke Khiladi was based on Munshi Premchand's short story of the same name. In fact, film-makers have always been fascinated by best-selling books/novels for adapting into feature films. Mira Nair's The Nameshake, P.C. Barua, Bimal Roy and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas, Pradeep Sarkar's Parineeta, Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots, Atul Agnihotri's Hello and the recent Aisha have been adapted from literary works. Even in Hollywood, Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter, Narnia and many more have been successfully adapted from novels by reputed names.

However, if you analyze the past, you will realize that not all movies adapted from novels/short stories have set the cash registers jingling at the box-office. Films like Pinjar, Paheli, Raincoat and international experiments like Bride And Prejudice and The Mistress Of Spices have found very few takers in the past.

This is not the first time Ashutosh Gowariker has adapted a book into a film. Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is yet another book-to-movie adaptation by this talented storyteller [this one is based on the book 'Do And Die: The Chittagong Uprising 1930-34' by Manini Chatterjee]. Again, this is not the first time Ashutosh Gowariker has revisited the bygone era. He did it successfully in Lagaan [period], then Jodhaa Akbar [historical] and now Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey [period].

Recreating the bygone era is indeed demanding, laborious and strenuous. It's a challenge to present the era convincingly. Besides extensive detailing to lend authenticity, the director carries the responsibility of making the characters come alive to the present-day generation. Gowariker has successfully done that in the past and does it successfully yet again in Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.

Once the film-maker takes on the task of depicting a chapter from history, it's imperative that he/she remains factual to the depiction of the revolution, giving an accurate account of what actually transpired in that period. But details alone won't help, it needs to be well dramatized for the big screen. There's a vast difference in the style novels are written, but one needs to take extra care to make it film friendly. While I may not be able to comment on whether Gowariker has been faithful to the book or tampered with it or implemented some changes, which may be necessary to suit the tastes of the present-day spectators and make it more palatable, I would definitely like to say that what comes across on screen is very absorbing, truly informative and exceptionally inspiring.

Final word? The expectations from Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey are minimal, but you can't overlook the fact that it's a genuinely honest effort that needs to be encouraged and appreciated. I would like to add here that the promotional posters/billboards/promos don't create any impact whatsoever. Wish the makers would've looked into this very important aspect as well!

1930, British India: In the province of undivided Bengal lies the sleepy, peaceful port of Chittagong. In this unassuming little town, a revolution is about to begin; a revolution which will forever wake all of Chittagong and inspire the entire nation.

April 18. 1 night. 5 simultaneous attacks. A band of 64 - 56 innocent yet fearless young boys, 5 defiant revolutionaries, 2 determined young women, and an idealistic leader [Surjya Sen], a school teacher by profession.

This group of 64 represents a little-known chapter in history; a forgotten night that reigned terror on the British through a series of calculated attacks. This is a true story of these forgotten heroes and the narrative takes us through every step of the action from the initial trepidation, to the thrill of the attack, to the underground movement, daring escapes and tragic captures, and most importantly, their undying legacy.

A film-maker of extensive aptitude and sensitivity, Gowariker's tryst with period films continues. Seems like he has worked himself to the grind in order to attain perfection. The writing [screenplay: Raoul V. Randolf and Ashutosh Gowariker] and execution of the material are so credible that it influences you to wonder if the writers and director were part of the revolution. The Bengali ethos and the behavioral patterns of the characters, recreating the etiquette and body language of people who lived in a different era along with their attire and styling and also their dwellings come across as very pragmatic. In fact, Gowariker has left no stone unturned to make a film that does justice to the event.

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey has almost entirely been shot in Goa and not Chittagong [now Bangladesh] because the location that was there in the 1930s no longer exists in that shape, I understand. However, the film captures the spirit and intensity to perfection. On the other hand, with Gowariker's films, the length/running time of the film is always a topic of discussion and that's a problem with Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey as well. The film has a running time of approx. 2.48 hours and the editor [Dilip Deo] and director could've easily trimmed a few fight sequences in the second half, to make the goings-on crisper.

Musically, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is embellished with soft and soothing compositions, but I have an issue with that. Sure, the album is high on patriotic sentiment, but the songs in the first hour act as a roadblock in the narrative. Ideally, it should've been a songless film. However, the background score [also by Sohail Sen] enhances every scene, making it more impactful. The production design [Nitin Chandrakant Desai] transports you to that era. It's that authentic. The stunts [Ravi Dewan] are true to life. Kiran Deohans and Seetha Sandhiri's cinematography captures the era to perfection.

Abhishek as Surjya Sen suits the character right. His character appears very fervent, but at the same time truly tranquil, incredibly unperturbed and really unruffled, which merges very well with the character of an educationalist that he illustrates. A freedom fighter with these attributes hasn't been presented in a motion picture before. Abhishek gets to the character a certain authority. The rebelliousness and boisterousness are depicted to perfection.

Deepika sheds her glam look and looks every bit the character she illustrates. Kudos to her first of all for accepting a challenging role [of a woman revolutionary of the 1930s] so early in her career and then almost living that character in the film, continuing to prove her mettle far ahead of her poise and exquisiteness.

Sikander Kher leaves a terrific impression. He excels in several scenes. Vishakha Singh is a complete natural. She catches one's attention instantly. Samrat Mukerji, Maninder and Feroz Wahid Khan, each actor is earnest and sincere to the core. In fact, every actor in the film looks most convincing in their respective parts. I would like to make a special mention of the young artists [most of them seem like first-time performers], who have a very unpolluted/uninfluenced approach to acting. Brownie points to each one of them.

On the whole, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, based on the Chittagong rebellion, is an enlightening experience of a poignant, but little-known chapter in history. It's a film of immense significance which evokes a colossal patriotic fervor. A motion picture like Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey isn't created targeting the box-office solely. It's also made for the gratification of the senses. And that it does in sufficient measure. In an industry obsessed by opening weekend business and box-office records, this is one of those rare films that doesn't compromise on its gracious objectives for the sake of becoming more box-office friendly. At the same time, a film like Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, although very well made, may not appeal to those who relish the customary kitsch and masala. Therefore, the film will have to rely on a very strong word of mouth to create any kind of an impression or impact at the box-office.

AAmir Khan Kiran Rao on Tellywood | Aish and Abhi on Small Screen

AAmir Khan Kiran Rao on Tellywood | Aish and Abhi on Small Screen

The third season of the highly successful talkshow "Koffee with Karan" was start aired on November, 7th, 2010. The show is renowned for being fast paced, witty and funny. The audience is especially entertained by regular segments like the `rapid fire round` in which guests battle it out verbally to win the infamous coffee hamper.

Bollywood couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan appeared in the first episode of the “Koffee With Karan” season 3.

The couple together for the first time on a small screen show and will be sharing their cherished moments with Karan.

Karan Johar, who's as famous for 'Koffee With Karan' as he is for his films, says that he wants Aamir Khan to come to his show, not with Salman, but with wife Kiran Rao.

I have to be honest, I don't write those questions myself. If at all I do, it's only for the rapid fire, at times. But I don't think I need any homework, I know a lot about them anyway," says Karan Johar about his show 'Koffee With Karan'. He's down with malaria, and couldn't accompany buddy SRK for his birthday celebrations in Berlin.

Being a film industry insider also gives Karan the advantage of taking any interview with a celeb beyond what they can expect. After all, he knows more than what others do. "But I can't ask many controversial questions," he counters. "I do, however, ask questions regarding affairs and relationships, but that's only when they have answered the same question often in public. Even if they deny their alleged relationship, my expression (he gives a mischievous smile in return for answers he doesn't buy, remember?) makes all the difference – and the whole thing sounds very lighthearted."

But does that also mean that if the guests request him to edit a few excerpts from the chat, he'd agree? "Yes, I do, a lot of times. Indeed, the uncut version of "KWK" will be much more controversial than what one sees," he claims with a smile. "But that'll always be with me and never shared with the audience. In reverse, at times, I also call up my guests and say 'Look, I don't think this particular part is going to go down well with the audience, so I am deleting it,' and they agree."
So he's never cribbed that the interesting portions are sliced off? "For me, it's not about any sensational punchline that would attract viewers. So when I call my guests, I ought to respect them," he says.

How does he handle two (or three) guests who are on the couch as they are his friends, but can't stand each other? "It's a myth that I call people who don't like each other. And even if they do, they are mature enough not to let it affect them. I have shot with Deepika and Sonam – two competing actors – and those kids (kids?!) were so chilled out. It was amazing to see how they have grown above their issues, and were full of chemistry," recalls Karan. He has shot with Imran and Ranbir, and even Imtiaz Ali, Raju Hirani and Farah Khan in a director's special episode.

What about Aamir Khan – is he going to be on the show with Salman Khan, as rumoured? "I have invited Aamir along with his better half. I want him to come only with Kiran, because I really like her. Let's see if they come over," he says.

The coffee hamper has a high-end smartphone and a few more gadgets this time. The sets are black and red... Is the host doing anything different? "I am three years older now!" he laughs. "But no, not at all. I'm going to wear my black suit and black shoes... what can I do to myself? I am just a filmmaker, at the end of the day," says Karan, and after a pause, adds, "Unfortunately, I am known more for my talk show than the films I make. I mean, it's good because my hobby has worked more than my job, but it's unfortunate because my passion – that is filmmaking – goes unnoticed. A lot of times, when I travel abroad, people look at me and say they really like my show, but don't say anything about my films. That's sad."

Rapid fire round
He gets his guests on their toes with those fast-paced questions; we made him answer a few rapidly, not giving him much time to think

Best Guest: Rakhi Sawant
Worst Guest: That's not fair! Just because I agreed for this, doesn't mean I have to answer this one also.
USP of the show: Intimacy between me and the guests.
Worst part of the show: The breaks we take in between, it affects the flow of the conversation. I just don't like it.
How many scenes edited: Oh! Many.
Does the lie detector help? No, it's just there to make some noise.
Most surprising show: With Himesh Reshammiya. The show came out better than I had thought.
Ever got emotional? No, never.
Next Season: Oh! Let's just get over with the battle, and not think of the war right now.

Abhishek Bacchchan Hanuman Bhakt unvailed 108 Hanuman

Abhishek Bacchchan Hanuman Bhakt unvailed 108 Hanuman
"I strongly believe in Hanumanji and am fully convinced that just having unflinching faith in him solves all the problems," said the 34-year-old actor. Bachchan said that he was fascinated with the natural beauty of Shimla and would definitely visit again with his famous family.

Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal here Thursday unveiled a 108-foot-high statue of Hindu god Hanuman at an altitude of 8,500 feet.

Bollywood heartthrob Abhishek Bachchan, a self-confessed Hanuman ''bhakt'' (devotee), unveiled the world''s largest statue of the monkey god in Simla. The statue was unveiled by the actor at Jakhu temple here amid much fanfare and he was among the first ones to offer his prayers to Hanuman.

Weighing 1,500 tonnes, the statue — one of the tallest in the world — is situated at Jakhu Mandir in Shimla. The daunting task was undertaken by JHS Nanda Trust, the philanthropic wing set up by oral health care manufacturers JHS Svendgaard Laboratories Ltd. The statue has sensors that keep birds away.

‘After unveiling the statue, I recalled the time spent with my grandmother who was a huge devotee of Lord Hanuman. She used to tell us stories about his adventures,’ Abhishek said, after unveiling the statue.

‘Jakhu temple is a very strong temple. There is a lot of power in here. When Nikhil (JHS managing director) approached me to be part of it, I readily agreed as I felt this was a call from god himself. It’s fantastic that a statue so tall has been erected in India. It is an achievement that will make the people of India proud,’ he added.

Wearing a brown kurta and white pyjamas, the actor was accompanied by sister Shweta Nanda and veteran actor Parikshit Sahani. He had even kept a fast until the statue was unveiled.

Nikhil Nanda, managing director of JHS, said: ‘All my family members are huge devotees of Lord Hanuman. We laid the foundation of the statue two years back. And today it gives me immense pride to unveil it.’

The idol was built at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore.

‘The working conditions were very tough as we had to work through extreme cold. The monkeys also created a lot of problems. We thought that we wouldn’t be able to complete even in five years but we are happy that we could complete it in two years,’ chief architect Naresh Kumar told.

Delhi fusion band Inspire performed at the function.

Aishwarya Rai Abhishek Bachchan fights at Award Function

Aishwarya Rai Abhishek Bachchan fights at Award Function

Bollywood’s most celebrated couple, Abhishek Bachchan and his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fight at an award ceremony and the witness of the fight is actor Kunal Kapoor.

It all happened at the recent award ceremony. Ever since Aishwarya married to Abhishek, she flaunts her love for her beau very much. Her expressions sometimes become too heavy on her face. Abhishek noticed that she was over excited while attending the media and he felt bit embarrassed. This has become an issue of spat between the two.

Kunal Kapoor who was along with Ash-Abhi witnessed their heated argument. He then maintained a distance from them and allowed them to solve the matter. Abhishek Bachchan asked Aishwarya to control her vocal as it was too loud and she responded immediately.

After a while, she again came to her original form. Abhishek Bachchan later took Aishwarya to the hotel lobby and tried to make her understand the matter peacefully. At this, Ash shouted at the top of her voice. The actor lost his cool and asked the security guard to take Ash to her room.

Hope, both settle the matter peacefully.

'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' is a true story of these forgotten heroes and the narrative takes us through every step of the action from the initial trepidation, to the thrill of the attack, to the underground movement, daring escapes and tragic captures, and most importantly, their undying legacy.

A period thriller, 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' is based on the book 'Do and Die: The Chittagong Uprising 1930-34' by Manini Chatterjee. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the movie will hit theatres on December 3.

Salman Khan has been plagued by questions about the status of his relationship with actress Katrina Kaif recently and the Bollywood superstar is perturbed as to why the media is making big news out of the issue.

"There are so many other problems affecting people in the country, why is Salman-Katrina relationship national news? I am not giving any clarifications, the media can write whatever it wants. It is my personal life, if people want to know, they will have to wait and watch," Salman said in an interview with India TV.

The controversy was triggered after Katrina, who is reportedly in a relationship with the actor for quite sometime, said she was 'single'.

Salman also spoke about other controversies in his life, including his brush with the law twice and his relationship with Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwariya Rai.

The 45-year-old actor, who is facing trial for killing black bucks in Rajasthan over a decade ago, said that the case does not stand against him.

"There is no case against me. The first post-mortem report of the animals did not show that they were killed by bullets. It is only said in the second report. I have been fighting the case for 11 years and till date have to take Jodhpur Court's permission before travelling anywhere," said Salman.

He had another brush with the law in a hit and run case in 2002, when his car crashed near American Express bakery in Bandra, killing one man and injuring others.
"Each time I pass that spot, it hurts me. Its the worst thing that could have ever happened. My driver Ashok was at the wheel when the car skidded while taking a turn. The case is still in court, lets see what happens," said Salman.

The actor, who is famously at logger-heads with superstar Shah Rukh Khan ever since a brawl at Katrina's birthday party, said that he respects the latter as an actor still remembers the good times he shared with him.

"I have a lot of respect for Shah Rukh as an actor. We shared some good times playing brothers in 'Karan Arjun'. There is no clash between us, but some misunderstandings crop up time and again," he said.

Salman, who was in a relationship with actress Aishwariya Rai for a few years, said he is glad that she has settled into a happy married life.

"I am very happy she is married to Abhishek. He is a great guy from a good family. The best thing I can want for her is that she leads a happy life," said Salman.

Abhishek Replaces Akshay In Hera Pheri 3

Priyadashan had given this hilarious movie ‘Hera Pheri’ with Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal in the three lead roles. The trio was repeated in the sequel and both the films rocked at the box office. Now, when the producer Feroz Nadiadwala is ready to come out with the third movie of Hera Pheri series, Akshay has turned pricey, which definitely doesn’t seems to be fitting into his budget.

Feroz Nadiadwala even kept the sequel pending for four years, for Akshay. However, now as that they have parted ways, the producer has decided to change the entire star cast. In the third Hera Pheri, Abhishek Bachchan will be seen replacing Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty will be replaced by Sanjay Dutt and Nana Patekar will don the role played by veteran Paresh Rawal.

The producer said that these actors will continue to be in the upcoming Hera Pheri films. But Nadiadwala is very distressed to continue without Akshay Kumar in the next movie. He said that Akshay is like a bother to him and he always wanted to have him in the next series. But he can not afford the price tag of Akshay now. Nadiadwala has been on talks on this project with Akshay Kumar since 2006, yet they could not reach to an agreement. The producer hopes to get a chance to work with this superstar in his future ventures.

How will Hera Pheri 3 look without its three original lead actors? We hope the new set of actors can do justice to this laughing riot in their own way.

Delve further and… you'll be rewarded with 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey', a period thriller based on the Chittagong Uprising Of the 1930s, helmed by Ashutosh Gowariker and patterned on the book 'Do And Die' by Manini Chatterjee.

Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone pair up under the hawk eyed guidance of Gowariker to unveil a saga of grit and defiant bravery, slated to illumine cinemas on December 3, 2010.

Their role in the uprising was defined by their personalities, which were varying in attributes.

Surjya Sen with his team of revolutionaries led the attack on five centres of British power in the town of Chittagong (then a part of undivided India) on the night of 18th April, 1930. The revolutionaries complemented Surjya Sen's leadership and each became an integral part of the attack.

Ranjha ranjha kardi ve main aape ranjha hoyi
Ranjha ranjha saddo ni mainu heer na aakho koyi

Oo ranjha ranjha na kar heere jag badnami hoye
Patti patti jhar jaave par khushboo chup na hoye

Begunah pakda gaya (yaaro), ishq mein jakda gaya (yaaro)
Aankh ke dosh mein dil (yaaro), bewajah pakda gaya (yaaro)

Aankh se hatt ti nahin, arrey hatt ti nahin, arrey hatt ti nahin
Sotey sotey bolta hoon, kabhi bolte bolte sota hoon
Kya jaane kya hota hai, kabhi jalti aag dadolta hoon
Ek baar to aake dekhe woh bhi

Ranjha ranjha kardi ve main aape ranjha hoyi

Jalti raakh laga le maathe lagey to chandan hoye
Ranjha ranjha kardi ve main
Ranjha ranjha kardi ve main aape ranjha hoyi
Ranjha ranjha saddo ni mainu heer na aakho koyi

Waqt katt ta bhi nahin, waqt rukta bhi nahin
Dil hai sajde mein magar, ishq jhukta bhi nahin
Bina tere raatein, arrey raatein kyun lambhi lagti hain
Kabhi tera gussa, kabhi teri baatein kyun achchi lagti hain
Yeh jalte koyle, arrey koyle ab rakhna mushkil hai

Ranjha ranjha kardi ve main aape ranjha hoyi
Jalti raakh laga le maathe lagey to chandan hoye

Chal, chal junoon chalte rahein, tu kahin theher nahin
Dil agar aa bhi gaya, woh tera shehar nahin
Bina tere saansein, arrey saansein kahin khatam na ho jaayein
Sabi teri yaadein, sabi yaadein kahin basam na ho jaayein
Sulagte koyle, arrey koyle ab bujhna mushkil hai

Ranjha ranjha kardi ve main
