Abhay Gulati and Aaliya Khan have known each other since they were four years old. Their friendship turned into love at the tender age of 15, when Abhay realises Aaliya is the girl for him.

Aaliya's life is defined by her burning desire to become an actress and she is unmindful of what or who comes in her way. Abhay who is still unsure about what he wants to do finds himself competing with Aaliya's incessant plans and projects to fulfil her dreams. While their relationship blooms because of their personality differences, the baggage because of these differences also grows silently.

Things come to a head when Aaliya decides to go to Australia to study and Abhay has to deal with the prospect of a long term relationship, secretly fearing that he will lose Aaliya forever. He takes a leap of faith and they decide to take this time off from each other to figure out what they want to do.

The choices Abhay and Aaliya make from here on tests their relationship.

Aaliya risks everything and everyone she loves only to realize that there is no joy in achieving one's dreams if one has no one to share it with. Abhay risks losing every shred of his ego, dignity and self-respect only to realize that there is no bigger high than seeing your dream come to life, brick by brick. They make mistakes, deal with disappointments, even lose each other - and become stronger individually.

'Break Ke Baad' is not just a coming of age film, but a film about couples growing up - together. In a fickle world where relationships break up on the smallest of differences, Abhay and Aaliya manage to save theirs despite geographical ones.

Imran Khan like to play LoverBoy

Imran Khan like to play LoverBoy

Imran Khan looks every bit a chocolate boy, a tag that he has been given and lived up to in his first film “Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na”.
Up next is another romantic comedy “I Hate Luv Storys” and the actor says he loves doing love stories as they are great fun and also provide greater scope to showcase his acting skills.

“As an actor when you are working in a romantic film, it’s more fun. In action films, there is very less acting. There we are usually running, fighting, jumping or falling… so very less space for acting is left,” Imran said in an interview.

“But the romantic and comedy films are more dependent on actors - how you say a particular line with correct expression is important. So there is more acting involved,” he said.

After playing a loveable character in “Jaane Tu…”, a kidnapper in “Kidnap” and a gambler in “Luck”, the 27-year-old will be seen as a womaniser in his forthcoming movie.

Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, “I Hate Luv Storys” has been directed by debutant Punit Malhotra.

Though in real life he is a one-woman man, Imran didn’t find it tough playing a casanova.

“It was not tough because the script was very nice and Punit Malhotra had given me a thorough character sketch. So for me, it was not a hard role. The humour in the film is cheeky,” said Imran, who is engaged to long-time sweetheart Avantika Malik.

Imran says most of his movies have been with first-time directors.

“I have done six films till date, only three have released. Among those six, four were with first-time directors. When I work with new directors, we think on the same lines… and we speak the same language. Punit is two years older to me; so when I met him I felt that his thought process, his tastes match mine…This is a young film for people of our age,” he said.

Releasing July 2, the film revolves around Jay (Imran) and Simran (Sonam Kapoor), who are complete opposites when it comes to romance. While Jay doesn’t believe in love, Simran swears by it and is quite ‘filmy’ about the idea of romance. In the film, both of them work for a well-known director (Sameer Soni) who specialises in grand romantic potboilers.

“Sameer’s character is somewhat inspired by Karan Johar,” said Imran, who wanted a Hindi title for the film.

“I always felt that it should be a Hindi title. I told Punit and Karan to give some Hindi title to the film so that it reaches a bigger audience, but we could never find a good title in Hindi,” he said.

Asked how much influence uncle Aamir Khan exercised in his life, he said: “As a person he has influenced me a lot. He is very particular that he must do the right thing. But he has always said that I have to learn by myself - make mistakes and learn from it and when you succeed yourself, it will be better. “

Imran’s next, “Break Ke Baad”, is also a romantic movie for which he has teamed up with Deepika Padukone.

“It’s a romantic film but not like ‘I Hate…’. It’s about romance and growing up. It shows how a young couple matures in love and their life when they are adults.”

I Hate Love Story -Punit Malhotra, "I Hate Love Story" Firtst Video

Don`t go by the name, Sonam Kapoor and Imran Khan starrer `I Hate Luv Storys` is totally pro-love, says young director Punit Malhotra, who has given a "fun treatment" to the much ridiculed Bollywood romances.

Punit is confident that the film, about a young man who falls in love despite being cynical about the whole concept, will find a connect with the audience.

"It is very young, fresh and totally pro-love stories. It is not anti-anything. We all have grown up watching Bollywood romances and no matter what we say, we connect to them somewhere. They may be soppy, cheezy but they are feel-good films. People do associate with them at some level," Punit told reporters.

"It is a take-off from romantic films of Bollywood in a very nice way. It is a little tongue-and-cheek way of looking at all the romantics films and stories," he adds.

The film, produced by Karan Johar`s Dharma productions, hits theatres this July.

At 28, he may seem too young to handle the intricacies of filmmaking, but Punit, nephew of fashion desinger Manish Malhotra, is a veteran when it comes to working behind the camera.

He has assisted director-producer Karan Johar on blockbusters like `Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham`, `Kal Ho Naa Ho`, `Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Amol Palekar on ‘Paheli’ and Tarun Mansukhani on `Dostana` as creative director.

"I wanted to turn director couple of years back but for
some reasons I did not get into it. But I have gone all out with this film. I don`t think I am too young for direction," says Punit, who slogged behind the camera for close to ten years.

His closeness with the lead actress of his film has sparked romance rumours but the director rubbishes such reports.

"I don`t know where it came from. It is total rubbish. People come and say anything and go away. You can laugh at times and get irritated at times but can do nothing about it.

In fact, it was Sonam, who told me to keep my cool about such rumours," he says.

The young filmmaker says he did consider acting at one point of time but was so possessive about his story that he did not want anyone else to direct it.

He also believes that the best thing that happened to the project was the golden pairing of young heartthrobs Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor.

"Imran and Sonam make a good pair. They look stunning together and that is the USP of this film. In fact, barring few exceptions, no one in the crew was above the age of 30. We were a young team and had a different approach to things which has translated into a great onscreen chemistry," he adds.

Following two duds --`Kidnap` and `Luck`, Imran returns back to the romantic genre after his successful debut `Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa`and going by the promos, the actor looks comfortable in his skin.

A lot is at stake for Sonam too. Despite being praised for her beauty and vivaciousness, the actress has not been able to register a hit with `Saawariya` and `Delhi 6`.

Punit says Johar, despite his expertise in rom-coms, did not interfere with the project.

"Karan read the very first draft and he was like `you should make this film`. Apart from getting his name involved, he told me what were the right components in the romantic comedy. But he was very fair at no point he would interfere.

He just told me what the film needed and backed off after a point. He let me be in my own skin," he adds.
