Golmaal 3 - Tushar Kapoor Speech on Speechless laughter

If actor Tusshar Kapoor does a scene that has no dialogues, directors tell him “don’t do a Golmaal”. But to win over audience without speaking a single word for three movies now, is a feat nonetheless. “This feels really good. I didn’t know that the character would work so well with the audience. It is pretty scary to make people laugh without dialogues but I’m happy that it worked out in the end,” says Kapoor.

So Kunal Khemu talks non-stop in Golmaal 3, Shreyas Talpade stammers and Kapoor’s character, ofcourse, can manage to make only a few noises. Why this stress on speech disabilities? “It is not that Kunal talks non-stop; rather he talks in muhavras,” he says. “While making a comedy, you need to have mad characters. Rohit (Shetty) wanted all mad characters. Johnny Bhai’s problem is that he forgets everything while Ajay is someone who gets angry very easily — and these are not variations of talking disabilities,” points the actor.

A long stint with his co-actors in the Golmaal series has also resulted in some friendship — specially with Talpade and Devgn with whom he has done four and five films respectively. “Yeah, though I don’t know Shreyas that well, we have a great working equation. Ajay and I are very friendly; we hang out a lot together. I’m close to Kareena too,” says Kapoor, who has starred with Kareena in three movies — as a lover, brother and friend respectively.

The actor also accepts that it is difficult to create muffled sound. “It is difficult because you have to create a sound close to the word. The audience should be able to decipher what he is saying or the laughs will get lost.”

Though Tusshar’s is the most popular character that people associate with Golmaal, nonetheless, it’s a multi-star ensemble. Does it affect his career? “Every time a film does well, even if it is a multi-starrer, it gives my career a push,” Kapoor comes clean. Director Rohit Shetty is supposedly thinking of moving on after Golmaal 3, but Tusshar is game for more. “Of course, I would want more,” he signs off.
